The Tū Ātea Innovation Programme is in its establishment phase.

The programme will create new routes into invention and entrepreneurship and support the acceleration of Māori-owned startups, groups and businesses that are tackling innovations that are intelligent and scalable, and that solve real-world problems.

In 2025, we are building a lab environment in Auckland with 5G private networks and experts on site.

We are creating a network of "sister hubs" with innovation centres around the country and globally so we can share our resources and expertise, coordinate exchanges for innovators wanting to experience our specialities, and the specialties of our other "sister hubs".

It will be a practical and highly supported environment that offers a new generation of Māori innovators everything they need to create, test, launch and deploy their innovations.

Our Innovation Programme will also include cultural support and learning approaches such as tuakana-teina, kaupapa Māori, and Mātauranga Māori methods – alongside parallel ‘western’ industry and academic methods.

Initiatives
Demonstration Use Cases
Our Demonstration Use Cases (DUCs) support innovators and innovation for unique use cases using our unique 5G private networks. It showcases prototypes, proof of concepts and offers pathways to commercialisation.
The programme includes both Tū Ātea internal innovation alongside those of external participants.
Future Lab Environment
In 2025 we are building a physical innovation lab in Auckland. We will partner with "sister hubs" around the country and overseas to share our specialty areas and expertise for the benefit of our innovators.
Our Tū Ātea innovation Centre will specialise in wireless network technologies, provide a private 4G and 5G lab environment, facilities for workshops, offices and spaces.

Calling Innovators
Do you have an intelligent and scalable innovation at any stage of its journey? You might be a Māori community inventor, at a university or working for a company, or an individual with an interesting unique project. You might not be Māori but want to include Māori side-by-side in the lab in your journey.
